• Harland, Claude

My granduncle Claude lived until 90 years of age in 1976. He married Henrietta (Hetty) Young. They adopted two daughters, Helen and Gwen. Until now I was unaware that he had been in the army in the First World War: he never spoke of it although I have no doubt that he would have if asked. I did know he had lost a younger brother () at Fromelles. He worked as an engineer after his return and was a good person to have around: a calm, friendly presence, a good listener and slow to judge.
