• An Australian Mascot

This young kangaroo travelled from Perth, Western Australia, to England as the mascot of the 6th Tunneling Company. The girl in whose arms it is held is a worker at a munitions factory. The “Joey” is in charge of Sapper L. C. Hopkins, whose companions are Sapper John Daniel Elston and Sapper Henry Gundry Tresidder. Sydney Mail Wednesday 15 November, 1916. Please note. In the original membership of the 6th Tunnelling Company, there were two soldiers with the surname Hopkins, and both held had the rank of Lance Corporal. 4254 Frederick Hopkins and 4255 George Henry Hopkins. The Lance Corporal Hopkins mentioned in the article is likely to be one of these two soldiers.
