    • Walter Joy wins the Stawell Gift in 1895

Although small in stature, he was a great athlete and respresented the town of Dunolly at many Athletic Meetings in the 1890s. He won the Stawell Gift, then one of the world's richest footraces, in the fast time of 12.25 seconds. His photo still appears in the old Eaglehawk Fire Station which was taken in 1900. His son William Alfred Joy served in WW1 at the same time as his father.
