Huon Times (Franklin, Tas), Friday 7 September 1917, page 2 FRANKLIN SOLDIER WOUNDED AND HONORED. Information, has been received by Mrs M. J. Fulton, of Franklin, that Private W. Minahan, who enlisted in February, 1915 and went through the Gallipoli campaign was awarded in May last the Military Medal for gallant services in France. The young soldier, however, has been seriously maimed. A shell exploded close to his head and the injuries he received caused him to lose one of his eyes and portion of an ear. He had to be taken to England for medical attention and when he wrote was expecting to be sent back to Australia by the next transport coming out here.
