    AMBROSE MASON - the son of Samuel Joseph Mason & Mary Frances Cusack. He was born at Riverstone, NSW on 22.7.1894 and enlisted at Liverpool, NSW on 12.7.1915, aged 21. He was a teacher - five feet seven inches tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair - no distinguishing marks. Ambrose's Service No was 3402 and he was part of the 11th reinforcements, 1st Battalion, 1st AIF. He reached Egypt in Jan 1916 and by March 1916 was in France. Appointed Lance Corporal on 27.8.1916, he was promoted to Corporal on 21.9.1916. On 10.11.1916 he was declared "missing" and following a court of enquiry, his death was confirmed to have happened on 5.11.1916 "in France". Ambrose is buried in the Grevilliers British Cemetery, France three kilometres from Bapaume. His personal effects - waterproof wallet, photos, card, letters, 3 notebooks.
