    BeforeWW1 trained soldiers in Royal Military College Duntroon. Commanded 1st and 2nd Division AIF, in Dardanelles 1915. After the war he was a soldier settler in his lease called Cranleigh, located over the future suburbs of Latham, Flynn, Florey, Scullin and Higgins. He presided over a Farmers and Settlers Association.
