    Alfred Howard A’Beckett was born on the 9th of June 1869 in Windsor, Victoria to his parents Malwyn and Affra A’Beckett. He was married to Dorothy Lydia A’Beckett. Alfred Howard A’Beckett enlisted at Northcote on the 15th March 1917 and was appointed as a Private to the 9th Reinforcements, 58th Infantry Battalion. He embarked from Sydney on board the HMAT Port Melbourne on the 16th of July 1917. During the voyage Alfred was admitted to the ship’s hospital with a back injury but he was discharged before he arrived in Liverpool on 16th September 1917. After completing his training, Private A’Beckett proceeded to France in January 1918. On the 19th of January, Alfred went to hospital sick and then embarked for England with Bronchitis where he was admitted to Southwark Military Hospital. Alfred A’Beckett departed England on the 12th May 1918 for Australia where he was discharged due to his age and general debility. He died on the 5th of December 1950 at the Heidelberg Military Hospital and was buried at Springvale Cemetery in Victoria.
