    PRIVATE RUPERT C ACKLAND Son of Mr F G Ackland, was born at Ballarat on the 14th of May 1897. He attended school at Watchem West and Watchem, later at Mosman and Fort Street, Sydney, where he was successful in passing the Junior Public Examination. This enabled him to obtain a position as clerk in the Crown Solicitors Office, Sydney. On the 11th of January 1916, he enlisted and after training at Menangle Park, NSW, he embarked with the 19th Reinforcements to the 1st Regiment of Mounted Machine Gunners on the transport "Mongolia" on the 8th July 1916. He took part in the battle of El Arish and Rafa and was wounded in the hip in Jan 1917, from which he died after two days illness
