    Albert enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania as a Gunner in the AIF 3rd Field Artillery Brigade on the 18th January 1915.He was a 24 year old Clerk. In September 1915 he was attached to the 9th Field Artillery Battery at Gallipoli and was back in Alexandria on the 22nd December after the evacuation. On the 1st April 1916 he arrived in France, being promoted to Bombardier, before being “wounded in action” in Belgium receiving a wound to the leg which resulted in a two week absence from his unit. He then received two weeks leave in England. On return he was promoted to Corporal. In September 1918 he was promoted to Sergeant but 10 days later was again “wounded in action” receiving a severe gunshot wound to the right hand which had him transferred back to England. This resulted in him reverting back to the rank of Corporal. He was discharged on the 28th September 1919.
