      He served as a Sapper with the 2nd Australian Light Railway Operating Company. (AROD). He received an accidental gunshot wound to the left arm.

    Samuel was badly injured in 1908. When driving a buggy an accident occured which fractured both legs. This injury was worsened by his was service.
